On February 22, 2019, the 91st Oscars® will be awarded. Among the nominees are two DCM films with a total of 4 nominations:
Willem Dafoe was nominated for “Best Actor” for VAN GOGH – AT THE THRESHOLD OF ETERNITY. In Julian Schnabel’s film, Dafoe takes on the role of the famous artist and shows a fascinating journey into the body and mind of Vincent van Gogh, who despite skepticism, madness and illness, created some of the world’s most impressive and acclaimed works of art. But like so many artists he was ahead of his time and was socially shunned and disapproved of during his lifetime.
The film will be released on April 18th in German cinemas.
BEALE STREET, the new film from director and Academy Award® winner Barry Jenkins (MOONLIGHT), has three nominations: Regina King for Best Supporting Actress, Nicolas Britell for Best Filmmusic and Barry Jenkins nominated for the “Best Adapted Screenplay”. The film is based on the novel by James Baldwin “Beale Street Blues” and will be screened in cinemas from 7th March.
The film tells a touching love story in 1970s America, in which racism against African-Americans was the norm. 19-year-old Tish and her fiancé Fonny are a young couple in the poor neighborhood of Harlem. Fonny is falsely accused of raping a Puerto Rican woman and is imprisoned without trial. Shortly after, Tish learns that she is expecting a child from Fonny. She confidently assures him she will get him out of prison before the child is born. With the help of her family she gives everything to prove his innocence….
We’re keeping our fingers crossed for all the nominees!
