WOLKENBRUCH celebrates its world premiere at the ZFF. Of course, DCM celebrates when one of the most anticipated Swiss films of the year is presented to the public.
His film adaptation of Thomas Meyer’s bestseller will be screened by director Michael Steiner on Saturday, September 29, 2018, in the presence of cast and crew.
The comedy WOLKENBRUCH is about the young Orthodox Jew Motti Wolkenbruch (Joel Basman), who has always done well what his mame (Inge Maux) has prescribed for him. Motti rebels when she tries to marry him and introduces him to one marriage candidate after another, deviating from his traditional life path. He falls in love with the university in the beautiful non-Jew Laura (Noémie Schmidt). His mame is outrageous – a relationship with a fate is not provided for in Motti’s life plan. So Motti bravely begins his whimsical journey to self-determination, which is associated with heartache, but also a lot of humor.
#WOLKENBRUCH is the film adaptation of Thomas Meyer’s bestseller, which was nominated for the 2012 Swiss Book Prize and has sold over 110,000 copies so far. “With his novel Thomas Meyer threw a humorous look at a community that is alien to many people and at the same time meets us on the doorstep in the middle of Zurich,” says director Michael Steiner. “It’s these unique insights into this world and the language that immediately mesmerized me.”
Director Michael Steiner, who has already celebrated his world premiere at the 6th Zurich Film Festival 2010 with his mystery thriller SENNENTUNTSCHI, is one of the most successful Swiss directors. His well-known film favorite MEIN NAME ISGEN won the Swiss Film Prize and scored 600,000 viewers. He is still the second most successful Swiss movie ever. His political and economic thriller GROUNDING – THE LAST DAYS OF SWISSAIR was a major theatrical success and led to heated debates nationwide.
On Saturday, September 29, 2018, on the green carpet in front of the cinema Corso, among others director Michael Steiner, screenwriter Thomas Meyer, the actors Joel Basman, Noémie Schmidt, Inge Maux, Udo Samel and Sunnyi Melles are expected. Likewise the producers Anita Wasser, Hans Syz and Michael Steiger, as well as our DCM co-producers Christoph Daniel and Marc Schmidheiny.
WOLKENBRUCH starts regularly in the Swiss cinemas on 25 October 2018 in the DCM rental.
