It’s New Years Eve in Hamburg. Oskar is the owner of a run-down music club in the nightlife district of the city. His life was a blast, but the party is about to end. The club has defaulted. All that’s left is the big closing party where all his past friends and foes come together. During the final night of the club, an ex-pimp is threatening Oskar’s life, his best friend Rocky has a breakdown, the once buoyant Nina is now painting everything black, the police chief and a dead Elvis are coming for the club, and in the midst of it all, there’s the love of his life: Mathilda, Mathilda, Mathilda.
For SO WAS VON DA, director LOVE STEAKS is betting on an innovative style of filmmaking: the first improvised adaption of a novel. Instead of a conventional script, the actors and actresses have to react with the real word. Instead of articifial sets, the film is being shot in a real Hamburg club. On four days, the club opens its doors to the party people of Hamburg.
SO WAS VON DA is a production of C-Films, co-produced with DCM and Tatami Films, with support of Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein and nordmedia Film- und Mediengesellschaft Niedersachsen/Bremen mbH.
DCM is set to release SO WAS VON DA in Germany and Switzerland in 2018.
