Intense. Powerful. True! SAME SAME BUT DIFFERENT tells the story of an extraordinary young couple who take on the fight against apparently insurmountable odds in order to live out their love. Director Detlev Buck (“Tough Enough” (“Knallhart”), “Männerpension”, “Hände weg von Mississippi”), known for his versatility and his intuition for exceptional storytelling material, has once again embarked on unknown terrain: Filming outside of Germany for the first time, he has sensitively staged this adventure (based on the successful novel “Wohin Du auch gehst” by Benjamin Prüfer) with haunting, atmospheric images and stirring music. In the process he depicts a Cambodia that lies between magic and uncompromising reality. A true fairytale about the power of love and an exciting journey beyond all borders.

Alongside the compelling principal actors, led by shooting stars David Kross – currently appearing before the camera for Steven Spielberg – and Apinya Sakuljaroensuky, the film features Stefan Konarske, Olli Dittrich, Mario Adorf, Anatole Taubmann and Wanda Badwa in supporting roles. SAME SAME BUT DIFFERENT was awarded with the “Variety Piazza Grande Award” at the Locarno Film Festival.
